I am currently looking for a few more places to detect - mainly older homes and properties built before the 1940s, or land that used to have a house or other activity on it (as well as pre 1900 farmer fields)
I am an adult with years of experience in the metal detecting hobby, and will respect your property if allowed to detect on it. In order to recover located items, I use the detector to pinpoint the location and then use a knife and/or small trowel to dig around 3 sides so I can pull back the ground rather than remove a whole plug. I only dig small holes (approx 3-5) and place any dirt onto a towel so it can later be used to refill the small hole, fold back the grass and tamp back into place. If allowed to hunt in a farm field, I use a small shovel and again refill the hole completely when finished.
I WILL NOT dig up anything that appears to be large unless the owner permits it, and my metal detector is capable of identifying iron items which I also don't recover which reduces the amount of digging as well.
Some of my finds have included: coins from the 1700's to present, trade tokens, jewelry, toys, dog tags and many assorted small relics
If you have an old property, farm or land that you wouldn't mind me detecting on, please send me a reply. I love history and if this is property which has been in your family for a long time, I would be most interested in hearing about the history of it before detecting - you would be surprised what might be buried in the dirt that you don't even know is there.
I am more than happy to show you anything I find and work out any arrangement to split the finds if you desire, in addition, if you or a family member have lost anything on your property, I'll be happy to spend some time looking for it as well.
I know it may seem like an odd request, but I find it to be a truly fascinating hobby and it can often be difficult to find new places to search. I look forward to hearing from you.
