I am assembling a group of strong singers and creative musicians of any instruments (drums, bass, cellos, guitars, violas, mandolins, brass, piano, keyboard, organ, banjo, whatever!) for a vocals-preponderant group doing originals and idiosyncratically-rendered covers. I essentially stopped doing music about twenty years ago, but in the 1990's I was signed to a subsidiary of the indie-label Caroline Records (Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, Ben Folds Five, King Crimson, Shonen Knife) and was under publishing/songwriting contract to Cherry Lane Publishing. Although I'd look forward to some possible recording and occasional performing, these days I generally aspire to "art for art's sake." Some favorites of mine include the following: Big Star, Badfinger, Neil Young, Willie Nelson, George Harrison, REM (pre major-label), the Replacements, Carole King, the Jayhawks, the Eagles, sixties-era Bee Gees, Fairport Convention, Joni Mitchell, Matthew Sweet, the Byrds, Radiohead, Galaxie 500, Nina Simone, Richard Strauss' 'Last Four Songs', Marvin Gaye, Debussy and Ravel chamber music, Lucinda Williams, and the Tin Hat Trio.
If the parameters and general aesthetic I've described above apply to you and resonate, please be in touch. I, myself, am now in my forties. I have no age preferences for you (older folks, middle-agers -like me, and younger folks are fine), but I do ask that you be at least 18 years of age. I look forward to hearing from you.
